Agroforestry

Agroforestry is an integrated approach of using the interactive benefits from combining trees and shrubs with crops and/or livestock. It combines agricultural and forestry technologies to create more diverse, productive, profitable, healthy, and sustainable land-use systems. A narrow definition of agroforestry is "trees on farms."

ICFRE has realized the changing role of forestry science in the contexts of majority of population living in villages and the inequitable distribution of profits generated by new technologies and products based on plant genetic resources. It has been addressing the needs of community forestry through diagnostic research livelihood analysis.

ICFRE is having its presence in each agro climatic zone and its team of researchers is developing agro forestry models to enhance the farmers’ income from per unit area of land and enabling them to fight against poverty. After extensive research ICFRE has developed following Agroforestry ICFRE has developed several repeatable and economically sound agroforestry models which can be up-scaled and mainstreamed.
